Head of School (Alternative Provision)

Exciting Leadership Opportunity – January 2027 | South London/Kent

We have an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new secondary Alternative Provision in the South London/Kent area, starting in January 2027.

We’re looking for an experienced and passionate professional with either a strong background in Alternative Provision, or leadership experience in behaviour, inclusion, SEMH or pastoral support within a secondary mainstream setting.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape a new provision from the outset, with the successful candidate playing a key role in developing its culture, systems and relationships.

A crucial part of the role will be the ability to build and strengthen relationships with local secondary schools and the Local Authority, creating strong partnerships and referral pathways that support the success of the provision.

You will also need a strong understanding of local authority processes, SEND/alternative provision frameworks and the expectations within the relevant borough, alongside the ability to navigate these effectively and build credibility with key stakeholders.

We’re looking for someone who is:

– Experienced in AP, behaviour, inclusion, SEMH or secondary leadership
– Strong at building relationships and partnerships with schools and external agencies
– Knowledgeable about local authority frameworks and processes
– Strategic, resilient and solutions-focused
– Passionate about improving outcomes for young people who require an alternative educational pathway
– Excited by the opportunity to build something new and make a lasting impact
